As the Unit Commander of the Toronto Police Homicide Squad, I welcome you to the Internet Web Site.
The safety of a community is often equated to the murder rate. It is the barometer of a healthy community. The overall feeling of safety in the community is directly linked to the number of homicides.
I was an investigator in the Squad for many years before I assumed the role of "the Boss". In that time, some of the most poignant, memorable, and tragic moments of my life were "The Notification": telling family and friends that their loved one is dead: murdered.
It is with those memories that I ask you to look closely at this site. For some of you, it is mere curiosity; others feel a civic interest and duty. Yet I know some of you have surfed this site for another reason: You Know and You Remember. You may even be Haunted by your Memories.
I appeal to that group. Investigation of homicides in the City of Toronto is a shared responsibility. The Homicide Squad is entrusted to lead murder investigations, but we cannot work in isolation. A cooperative effort is essential to success.
CALL us. Please.
In addition, I invite the families and friends of those loved ones who have lost their lives to homicide to contact my office and contribute photographs that you would like considered for addition to the case profiles.
