Date: March 31, 2000

Victims
Sergio MARRA
37/M

Mr. Marra was socializing and playing pool at Mario Brothers Bar which was located at 1890 Weston Road on the night of his death.

Details of Investigation
Shortly after 1:00 A.M. on Friday, March 31, 2000, Omar Moalin
(34 years-of-age at the time of this crime) entered Mario Brothers Bar, 1890 Weston Road, Toronto.

After a short time, he got into an argument with another bar patron. Moalin threatened to kill this man.

Fearing an escalation, about 2:00 a.m., the bar owner asked Moalin, the man with whom he had the argument and the man's friends, to leave. Moalin was directed to leave using the rear door of the bar. A short time later, the other man and his friends left through the front door.

Moalin entered his 1989, 4-door, Chevrolet Corsica, which was parked at the rear of the bar. He drove through the rear alley to Bellevue Crescent, proceeded north on Weston Road and stopped, facing north, opposite the bar.

When the man and his friends exited, the man saw Moalin sitting across the street, alone in his car. He remained on the west side of Weston for a short period of time. As Moalin revved his car’s engine, the man yelled to Moalin: “What’s your problem?”

The man then crossed Weston to south of where Moalin’s vehicle was stopped. As he crossed, Moalin set his car in motion. As it began to move, the man spat at Moalin’s vehicle.

As the man approached the centre of the road, Moalin made a u-turn, accelerated, squealed his tires and swerved in his direction. Moalin's car struck the man's arm, spinning him around. Moalin continued south on Weston. He made u-turn near Wilby Crescent and accelerated northbound.

The man, suffering minor injuries, returned to the west side of Weston Road. Shortly, he again began crossing the street from west to east. He was crossing Weston when he noticed Moalin’s vehicle accelerating towards him at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle began to swerve towards the man, who jumped onto the east sidewalk between a van owned by a Sergio Marra (Mr. Marra had been playing pool with acquaintances in the bar) and another vehicle. Someone shouted: “Get out of the way.”

At the same time that the man was trying to avoid Moalin's oncoming vehicle, Sergio Marra was beside his van, trying to get in the driver’s door.

Moalin’s vehicle struck Marra and impacted the front driver’s side of his van. Marra was propelled into the rear of a Nissan truck, parked near by. His head impacted the truck lid and his body smashed through the rear window. He came to rest partially within the vehicle and partially on the truck lid.

Sergio Marra was killed instantly.

After hitting Marra, Moalin continued north on Weston to just south of Lawrence Avenue West, where he stopped. He exited his vehicle and walked back to the collision scene. After viewing the collision scene momentarily, he ran back to his car.

Moalin drove off, turning right onto Lawrence Avenue West and proceeded east to the entrance of 2007-2009-2001 Lawrence Avenue West. He abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

An autopsy revealed Sergio Marra died from a basil skull facture.

On August 22, 2000, an arrest warrant was issued for Omar Mohamed Moalin on a charge of 1st degree murder.
