Both the deceased, Ajiganth Agi Mahalingam, and the wanted party, Mahalingam Vimalathas Mohanarajah, 28 years-of-age at the time of this crime, were members of the “Gilder Boys Gang.”
On Saturday, July 7th, 2007, the victim was sleeping at his parents’ apartment at 4301 Kingston Road. About 2:00 a.m., the accused, who was the victim’s close friend, came to the apartment, woke him and suggested they attend a birthday party, upstairs in apartment #1719.
About 6:10 a.m., the accused got into an argument with a young female, during which he slapped the girl’s head. On seeing the incident, the victim confronted his friend; a fist fight broke out between them.
The accused got a knife from the kitchen drawer and both men moved to the hallway. The accused stabbed the victim in the chest; leaving his shoes behind, he then fled the scene.
Approximately 6:18 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received regarding the stabbing. Responding paramedics located the victim in the 17th floor hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After an investigation by the Homicide Squad, an arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Mahalingam Vimalathas Mohanarajah on a charge of 2nd-degree murder
