On Wednesday, March 10th, 1993, a group of men including the victim, Dave Sylvester Francis and Norman Needham, 21 years-of-age at the time of this crime, were in a rental car returning to a Nairn Avenue address after the armed robbery of a local crack cocaine dealer.
As they drove along St. Clair Avenue West, in the area of Caledonia Road, Needham shot and killed David Francis with a handgun.
Francis’ body was dumped over the guardrail of the on-ramp from Lawrence Avenue East to southbound Don Valley Parkway. The deceased was not discovered until April 1st, 1993.
An autopsy determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the heart.
Further investigation by the Homicide Squad revealed that Norman Needham was involved in this offence. He is believed to have fled to Jamaica.
On April 19th, 1993, an arrest warrant was issued charging Norman Needham with manslaughter.
