Details of Investigation
As a result of wide scale advertising announcing a special evening at the Checkered Nigh Club establishment, 800 plus young patrons attended at the club on the night of December 28-29th.

Also present were numerous security personnel and five pay duty officers.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., December 29, 1999, gunfire erupted in the VIP lounge of the club.

A lone gunman fired several shots from a handgun.

Two bullets struck the victim Godfrey DUNBAR, mortally wounding him.

Richard BROWN (Hom 47-1999) was shot once and died immediately.

In the ensuing panic, the gunman made good his escape as hundreds of panicked patrons fled through the various exits.

Several people picked up Mr. Dunbar and hustled him outside to a car. They dumped him in the rear seat and told the driver to take him to a hospital. They then fled the scene.

The driver drove off, but was stopped a short distance away by officers alerted by the pay duty personnel.

He was pronounced dead a short time later by paramedics. The body of Richard BROWN (Homicide 47-1999) was found where it had fallen in the club.

It is obvious that some important witness(es) have not come forward to assist the Police.

The investigation is continuing.
