On Wednesday August 18th, 1999, at approximately 1645 hours, a 9.1.1. call was received by Toronto Ambulance for a medical complaint regarding an unconscious female at # 1 Vendome Place, Unit # 437, Toronto.
This call was placed by the mother of the victim.
Officers from 54 Division arrived on scene to observe CPR being administered to the victim by Toronto Fire and Toronto Ambulance in the victim’s bedroom.
The victim was then identified to these officers as Anita AGYEMAN, age 10 years.
Medical examination revealed that rigor mortis had set in and rescue efforts were stopped.
The Coroner, was called to the scene and pronounced death at 1820 hours. No cause of death was determined, however, Doctor TAYLOR listed the death as highly suspicious due to the age of the victim and evidence given by the mother and her boyfriend that the apartment was locked when they returned home from work to find the victim in this condition.
Detectives of the Homicide Squad attended this incident to assist the Divisional investigators and the Coroner.
On Thursday August 19th 1999, at 0900 hours, a post mortem examination was conducted at the Hospital for Sick Children.
As a result of this examination, the cause of death was determined to be Asphyxia.
The investigation is ongoing.
