On March 6, 1952, Sergeant of Detectives Edmund Tong and his partner, Detective Sergeant Roy Perry, had just spotted a vehicle wanted in an armed robbery. After the officers pulled up beside the suspect vehicle, Tong lowered his window and ordered the two occupants to stop the vehicle. Tong then left his cruiser and walked towards the suspect vehicle when he was shot. Perry was also wounded in the gunfire. Both suspects escaped but were later arrested in Montreal. Edmund Tong died March 23. Leonard Jackson and Steve Suchan were convicted of murder.
