On Sunday, January 29, 2017, at 3:46 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision on the westbound Gardiner Expressway, at the Humber River.
It is reported that:
- a 24-year-old man was driving a 2002 Subaru, westbound on the Gardiner Expressway, approaching the Humber River
- a man, 43, was driving a 2016 Ford F150 pick-up truck, westbound on the Gardiner Expressway, approaching the Humber River
- for reasons yet to be determined, the Subaru struck the rear of the pick-up truck, then struck a concrete barrier and subsequently burst into flames
- witnesses were able to extricate the driver of the Subaru from the vehicle
The driver of the Subaru received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
On Monday, February 27, 2017, the 24-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
