Man, 20, and boy, 16, arrested in two violent robbery investigations

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of two arrests in two violent robbery investigations.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, officers responded to a call for a hold-up in the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Fourteenth Street area.

It is alleged that:

- two males entered a variety store

- they selected a variety of fireworks

- they distracted an employee and ran out of the store with the stolen items

- the employee gave chase and caught one of them

- the male beat the employee to the ground, stomping on his head

- they then fled the scene

- the victim was hospitalized with several facial fractures

On Sunday, May 21, 2017, at 9 p.m., officers responded to a call for a robbery in the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Dwight Avenue area.

It is further alleged that:

- four males approached two boys aged 17 and 16

- they robbed one of the boys of personal items

- they punched him in the face

On Wednesday, May 24, 2017, Devonta Groves-Bennett, 22, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Robbery
2) Assault Causing Bodily Harm

He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, May 25, 2017, 10 a.m., room 206.

On Wednesday, May 24, 2017, a boy, 16, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Robbery
2) Assault Causing Bodily Harm

He appeared in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, May 25, 2017, 10 a.m., room 204.

The boy cannot be named under the provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
