On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, and Thursday, June 29, 2017, Toronto Police Service Traffic Services Highway Truck Squad participated in a two-day province-wide tow truck blitz.

Inspections were conducted at multiple locations throughout Toronto. They focused on new legislation from the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in relation to tow trucks which are now designated as commercial motor vehicles. This change in definition under the MTO requires towing operators to be bound by the rules and regulations under the Commercial Vehicles Operator Registry (CVOR).
