Man, 22, charged with assault on Parking Enforcement Officer,
Portland Street and King Street West area

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an investigation into an Assault on a Parking Enforcement Officer.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Parking Enforcement officer was issuing parking tickets in the Portland Street and Queen Street West area.

- a man, 22, became upset with the Parking Enforcement Officer after being issued a ticket and proceeded to follow him as he drove away

- the man then accelerated his vehicle at a high rate of speed, driving in oncoming traffic through busy downtown streets, and chased the Parking Enforcement Officer down in the Portland Street and King Street West area

- the Parking Enforcement Officer was cornered at a traffic light

- the man then threw a full cup of coffee at the Parking Enforcement Officer, hitting him in the face

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Omar Darkhabani, 22, of Oakville, was arrested.

He is charged with:

1) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
2) Assault a peace officer with a weapon

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, October 16, 2017, 11 a.m.
