28 year-old man facing charges

On Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 3:28 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Kingston Road, and Warden Avenue.
It is alleged that:
− a woman, 40, was attempting to cross Kingston Road, on the east side of Warden Avenue
− a man, 28, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox, westbound on Kingston Road, approaching Warden Avenue
− the woman was struck by the vehicle, as she attempted to cross the road
− the woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene
− the driver, in the same vehicle, failed to remain at the scene of the collision and were last seen westbound on Kingston Road
− the driver and vehicle were located a short time later in the area of Queen Street East, and Kingston Road
The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as David Opalka, 28, of Toronto, he has been charged with;
1. Impaired operation of a motor vehicle cause death
2. Over 80 mgs operation of a motor vehicle cause death
3. Criminal negligence cause death
4. Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle cause death
5. Fail to stop at scene of accident – fail to give name
6. Fail to stop at scene of accident – cause death
He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East, 10 a.m., room 412.
