On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, members of Toronto Police Service 41 Division, along with students from Taylor Creek Public School, will be targeting speeders along Warden Avenue, north of Danforth Road, during the 9 a.m.-to-11 a.m. rush hour.
Traffic and pedestrian safety continue to be priorities of the Toronto Police Service. The Toronto Police Service has partnered with the Toronto District School Board, student,s and residents of the community.
The purpose of this program is to bring greater awareness to drivers that excessive speed in a school zone has an effect on the school community. In addition, this initiative will empower the participating students by giving them the opportunity to take ownership of their community and change the driving habits of motorists in their school’s area.
Drivers' speeds will be measured by a speed-measuring radar unit operated by police officers and the speed will be compared to the students' mathematical measurements. Offending drivers will be pulled over and given the option of receiving a provincial offence notice from the police officer for the speed that was measured or a safety message and student-issued ticket from a Taylor Creek Public School student.
