Man, 25, faces 13 charges for bank robberies in
Toronto and Brampton

Toronto Police Service Hold Up would like to make the public aware of an arrest for a series of six financial robberies in Toronto and Brampton between October 2017 and March 2018.

It is alleged that:

- on Saturday, October 7, 2017, and Tuesday, October 10, 2017, a man entered two bank branches in Brampton

- after approaching a customer service representative, he produced a holdup note threatening that he was armed and demanded a specific quantity of money

- no weapon was seen

It is further alleged that:

- between Friday, December 15, 2017, and Friday, January 26, 2018, the same man entered three bank branches in the North York area of Toronto

- he disguised his identity with dark glasses, baseball hat, hood

- he passed a holdup note stating he was armed and obtained money before fleeing

It is further alleged that:

- on Friday, March 23, 2018, the same man entered a bank branch in Brampton

- he utilized a holdup note and obtained money

After a lengthy investigation, the man was identified and, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, he was arrested by TPS Hold Up.

During the arrest, it is alleged that:

- he attempted to break free from the officers

- a violent struggle ensued until he was handcuffed

Ivan Ramirez Chavira, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:

1) six counts of Robbery
2) six counts of Disguise with Intent
3) Assault to resist arrest

He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, room 306.
