On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 4 p.m., students from five Toronto-area high schools will compete in the ProAction Cops & Kids Annual Stone Soup Kitchen Competition, hosted at Humber College's School of Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation.
Originating in 2006, the Stone Soup Cooking Club sees guest-chefs teach students how to cook tasty, nutritious and affordable meals. Teams of four students from the following schools will test their skills in this end-of-season competition:
Blessed Archbishop Romero Catholic Secondary School
George Harvey Collegiate Institute
Kipling Collegiate Institute
Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School
Stephen Leacock Collegiate Institute
This year's celebrity judges will include Chief Mark Saunders, Deputy Chief Peter Yuen and Dillon Brooks from the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies.
ProAction Cops & Kids was founded in 1991 when Toronto businessman John L. Bitove Sr. realized that the City of Toronto would benefit from its youth and police officers having a better relationship with each other. Benefits include: a mutual understanding and respect between police officers and young people, the perception of police improving in the larger community and opening lines of communication between youth and police to begin to break down the culture of silence.
