In exactly 365 days, the Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games will kick off in Toronto.

From May 14 - 17, 2019, the Games will present a unique opportunity for an estimated 2,500 participants from around the world, including athletes aged 13-21, and their coaches, who will join in these ground-breaking games where athletes with intellectual disabilities will compete against one another and alongside their mainstream peers through unified sports.

The Games will be comprised of five sports: athletics, basketball, bocce, floor hockey, and soccer; held in three venues across the city of Toronto: University of Toronto, Centennial Park and the International Centre.

As the Games get nearer with the one-year countdown, host agency Toronto Police Service, and Honorary Chair for the Games Chief Mark Saunders, with the help of Maplewood High School students, will unveil the Games' flag today at Toronto Police Headquarters, 40 College Street, at 10 a.m., during the Police Week kick-off. The Games’ flag will also be flown at City Hall’s ceremonial flagpole, at 11 a.m., by the Chief’s Ceremonial Unit.

To cap off the countdown, the CN Tower will replace their regularly scheduled top-of-the-hour light show and, from dusk today to sunrise tomorrow, will be lit in the Games’ colours, red and white.

The Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games will unite athletes from around the world and their coaches. Hosted by the Toronto Police Service, with the support of the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto, the #YouthGames2019 will create a worldwide sporting and communal legacy during the 50th anniversary year of the Special Olympics movement.
