The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of an arrest in an ongoing Sexual Assault investigation.

It is alleged that:

- a man was employed as a building superintendent at 12 Rockford Road

- over the last four years, on multiple occasions, the man sexually assaulted a young girl

On Monday, August 13, 2018, members of the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) arrested Barry Strangways, 42, of Toronto. He was charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Interference
3) Invitation to Sexual Touching
4) Indecent Exposure to a Person Under 16 yrs

On Thursday, August 16, 2018, Barry Strangways, 42, was released from custody on a Recognizance of Bail.

It is further alleged that:

- a man was employed as a building superintendent at 12 Rockford Road

- between 2013 and 2016, the same man befriended a boy who was between 11 and 14 at the time

- during that time, the man and the boy spent a significant amount of time together

- the man sexually assaulted the boy on multiple occasions

On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, members of the CYAC arrested Barry Strangways, 42, of Toronto. He was charged with:

1) Sexual Assault
2) Sexual Interference
3) Invitation to Sexual Touching
4) Indecent Exposure to a Person Under 16 yrs

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Monday, August 27, 2018, 10 a.m.

Over the past 16 years, Barry Strangways has been employed as a building superintendent at the following residential addresses in Toronto:

1. 4750 Jane Street (2003–2008)
2. 2911 Bayview Avenue (2008–2012)
3. 12 Rockford Road (2012–present)

It is comprised of specialized child abuse investigators from the Toronto Police Service in partnership with Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre, Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, Native Child & Family Services, Jewish Family & Child, Radius Child & Youth Services, SAFE-T Program, Child Development Institute, the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program (The Hospital for Sick Children) and the Victim Witness Assistance Program.
