Two men arrested in violent bank robbery,
Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a financial robbery and the apprehension of two armed men.

On Monday, November 19, 2018, at 8:45 a.m., officers responded to a call for a robbery in the Steeles Avenue East and Markham Road area.

It is alleged that:

- two men broke into a bank that was closed

- a bank employee opened the bank to start work

- the employee was confronted by both suspects, one armed with a shotgun

- he was grabbed, robbed of personal items and held by the neck

- suspects obtained money then fled in a vehicle

- officers nearby had responded and saw the vehicle flee

- they followed the suspects in their vehicle

- the suspects lost control and became involved in a collision

- they fled on foot with officers chasing them

- both suspects were arrested after a violent struggle with officers

- an imitation shotgun was located in the suspect'ss car

Maurice Webb, 31, of Ajax, is charged with:

1. Break and Enter
2. Mischief to Property Over
3. Robbery with a Firearm
4. Robbery
5. Disguise with Intent
6. Forcible Confinement
7. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
8. Fail to Stop Police
9. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
10. Using Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
11. Point Firearm during the Commission of an Offence
12. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under
13. Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest

Jermaine Smith, 31, of Toronto, is charged with:

1. Break and Enter
2. Mischief to Property Over
3. Robbery with a Firearm
4. Disguise with Intent
5. Forcible Confinement
6. Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
7. Fail to Stop Police
8. Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
9. Using Firearm in the Commission of an Offence
10. Point Firearm during the Commission of an Offence
11. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under
12. Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest

They both appeared in court at 1901 Eglinton Avenue on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 2 p.m., in room 412.
