Distraction theft affects some of the most vulnerable people in our community, including seniors.

On Thursday, December 20, 2018, between 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., as part of a Holiday crime prevention initiative, officers from Toronto Police Service’s 41 Division are taking a pro-active approach to help prevent the occurrence of purse and wallet distraction thefts.

Festively named Operation Jingle, officers will be giving away little ‘jingle’ bells to shoppers, in particular seniors, to attach to their wallets. These bells are a simple yet effective way of helping alert if someone is trying to steal their valuables.

Officers will be also be speaking to shoppers and raising awareness about distraction thefts and personal safety during the busy holiday period.
