Five men arrested in an Attempt Murder/ Shooting Investigation,
Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area,
Facing multiple charges,
Two loaded semi-automatic handguns seized

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of arrests made in an Attempt Murder/Shooting investigation.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at approximately 4:00 p.m., two males were walking in a parking lot in the Driftwood Avenue and Jane Street area.

- at that time three other males made their way to the area in a vehicle. They drove next to the two males who were walking in the parking lot and had a verbal interaction with them

- for reasons unknown, the occupants of the vehicle produced at least one handgun and fired multiple shots at the two males

- one of the males sustained a gunshot wound to his head, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver of the vehicle then drove over the gunshot victim and dragged him several feet

- the victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he was treated and later stabilized by medical staff

- his companion, the second male was not physically injured.

- all three suspects fled the area in the vehicle

- through investigation, Officers from the West Command Gun Violence Suppression Unit with the assistance of the public, were able to identify the three suspects from the vehicle


On Friday, December 21, 2018, Stefian Grcevic, 19, of Toronto, was arrested. He has been charged with:

1. Attempt Murder
2. Discharge Firearm with Intent
3. Aggravated Assault
4. Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
5. Careless Storage of a Firearm
6. Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
7. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without holding a license and Registration Certificate
8. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm knowingly without holding a license and Registration Certificate
9. Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
10. Assault with a weapon
11. Fail to Comply Probation


On Thursday, January 3, 2019, officers conducted a vehicle stop to facilitate the arrest of two other men.

Filmon Fesshaghirgis, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Attempt Murder
2. Discharge Firearm with Intent
3. Aggravated Assault
4. Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
5. Two counts Careless Storage of a Firearm
6. Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
7. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without holding a license and Registration Certificate
8. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm knowingly without holding a license and Registration Certificate
9. Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
10. Assault with a weapon
11. Fail to Comply Probation
12 Two counts of Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
13. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
14. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
15. Possession of Firearm Knowing its Serial Number has Been Tampered
16. Possession of Prohibited Device
17. Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
18. Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
19. Fail to Comply with Recognizance
20. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime

Janai Alexander, 22, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Attempt Murder
2. Discharge Firearm with Intent
3. Aggravated Assault
4. Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
5. Two counts Careless Storage of a Firearm
6. Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
7. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without holding a license and Registration Certificate
8. Possess Restricted or Prohibited Firearm knowingly without holding a license and Registration Certificate
9. Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
10. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
11. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
12. Possession of Firearm Knowing its Serial Number has Been Tampered
13. Possession of Prohibited Device
14. Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
15. Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
16. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime

It is further alleged that:

- two other males were in the vehicle at the time of arrest

As a result, Joshua Sawyers, 18, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
2. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm CC 91(1(SAWYERS)
3. Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
4. Careless Storage of a Firearm
5. Possession of Prohibited Device
6. Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
7. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime CC 96 (1)

Donte'a Mitchell, 21, of Toronto was also arrested, he has been charged with:

1. Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm
2. Possess Firearm Obtained by Crime

All five men are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, 10 a.m., room 206.
