Arrest made in Human Trafficking investigation,
Man faces 17 new criminal charges,

On Friday, January 25, 2019, members of Sex Crimes Human Trafficking Enforcement Team commenced an investigation into a Human Trafficking occurrence. The Human Trafficking Enforcement Team identified a man.

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, the man was arrested and charged with 21 Human Trafficking-related criminal offences. A news release was issued and additional victims and witnesses have come forward.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2019, the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team arrested Simon Ho-On, 23, of Toronto. He is charged with:

1) two counts of Assault
2) three counts of Sexual Assault
3) Voyeurism
4) Procuring
5) Exercise Control
6) Trafficking in persons by recruiting, transporting, and harbouring
7) Financial and Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
8) Advertise anther persons services
9) Threaten bodily harm/death
10) Assault with a weapon
11) Possession of dangerous weapon
12) Administer Noxious Substance
13) Forcible Confinement
14) Sexual Assault with a Weapon

Previous News Release:

On Friday, January 25, 2019, members of the Toronto Police Service Human Trafficking Enforcement Team began an investigation into a report of human trafficking.

It is alleged that:

- a man utilized a noxious substance to render a 22-year-old woman unconscious and then control her

- he pressured and coerced her to work in the sex trade

- he tattooed her body with his nickname of “Sosa” to let people know that she was his property

- he and another man teamed up and advertised her in the sex trade on numerous websites including backpage.com, vipfavours.com and leolist.com

- both men would arrange for her to attend outcalls to provide sexual services to clients

- the two men used deception, intimidation and fear to exercise control over her actions

- during the time that she was exploited, she was assaulted, causing serious bodily harm and was threatened with a firearm by both men

- she was given controlled substances in order to keep her awake, in order to be at the ready to work in the sex trade. The controlled substances were also utilized to maintain power and control of the victim’s actions and decision making

- all the money generated from working in the sex trade was taken by both men

Members of the Human Trafficking Enforcement Team executed arrest warrants and multiple Criminal Code search warrants. Her property was recovered during the execution of the search warrants.

Police are concerned there may be more victims.

Human trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, harboring and/ or exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of a person in order to exploit that person, typically through sexual exploitation or forced labor.

Police would like to encourage all affected individuals to come forward and report Human Trafficking occurrences to police. Police want to make sure that everyone has access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to proceed criminally.
