Youth in Policing Initiative Summer Graduation,

On Friday, August 23, 2019, at 10 a.m., Premier of Ontario Doug Ford, Attorney General Doug Downey, MPP Etobicoke-Lakeshore Christine Hogarth, Mayor of the City of Toronto John Tory, Chair of the Toronto Police Services Board Mr. Andy Pringle and Chief of Police Mark Saunders will be at the Toronto Police College to celebrate the 2019 Toronto Police Service Youth in Policing Initiative Summer Graduation. This year, 151 youth from across the city will be graduating from the eight week summer program.

During the summer, the youth were assigned to various units/divisions throughout the Service, where they gained valuable job experience and life skills through their work with police officers and community members. They also had a chance to partake in several crime prevention initiatives, community events and training opportunities.

The Youth in Policing Initiative is part of the Government of Ontario’s Youth Opportunities Strategy. This Strategy is helping to build stronger communities by establishing and expanding community programs that help youth achieve a brighter future.

The young people in this program, aged 15-18, represented 31 neighbourhoods throughout the city which such as: Mount Olive-Silverstone- Jamestown; Elms-Old Rexdale; York University Heights; Black Creek; Regent Park; Flemingdon Park; South Parkdale; Crescent Town; Thistletown-Beaumond Heights; Rustic; Glenfield-Jane Heights; Thorncliffe Park and Weston-Pellam Park.
