Homicides #49/2018 and #50/2018,
Queen Street West and Peter Street area,
Abdulkadir Handule, 22, arrested

On Saturday, June 30, 2018, at 7:56 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting in the Queen Street West and Peter Street area.

It is reported that:

- officers arrived on scene and located two men and one woman, all with apparent gunshot wounds

- all three were taken to hospital via emergency run

- both men succumbed to their injuries

- the woman is expected to recover from her injuries

The two deceased men have been identified as:

Jahvante Smart, 21, of Toronto, and Ernest Modekwe, 28, of Toronto.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Abdulkadir Handule, 22, of Toronto.

On Friday, July 5, 2019, he was arrested in the area of Burnaby, British Columbia. He was arrested by the RCMP on unrelated charges and the Toronto Police Service was notified. Arrangements were made to return him to Toronto. He has been returned and attended court at Old City Hall on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 10 a.m., in room 101.

A second suspect who is a Young Person as described in the Youth Criminals Justice Act, and cannot be identified, is still wanted in relation to these murders. The Toronto Police Service encourages the Young Person to contact their lawyer and make arrangements to surrender themselves.

If you know the whereabouts of the Young Person, do not approach them. They are considered armed, violent and dangerous. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
