On Friday, April 21, 2017, at 9:30 p.m., police were called to the Dufferin Street and Bowie Avenue area for a sound of gunshots.

Emergency personnel arrived and found a man with apparent injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was identified as Leonard Pinnock, 33, of Hamilton.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Akil Whyte, 25, of Toronto.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, he was located by the U.S. Marshal Service in Atlanta, Georgia. He was arrested and held pending extradition.

On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, the Toronto Police Homicide attended Atlanta, Georgia and returned Akil Whyte to Canada.

On Thursday, September 5th, 2019, he appeared at 1000 Finch Avenue West, in courtroom 301. He is charged with:

1) First Degree Murder

Investigators believe that there are others involved in this murder, including a second shooter who has yet to be identified. We continue to ask for the assistance of the community to locate everyone responsible for this murder.
