Man, 39, arrested in aggravated assault and robbery investigation,
Adelaide Street East and Church Street area,
Faces six charges

Toronto Police Service's 51 Division would like to make the public aware of an arrest in an aggravated assault and robbery investigation in the Adelaide Street East and Church Street area.

It is alleged that:

- on Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 1:30 a.m., a man broke into an apartment unit

- a 57-year-old woman was sleeping and awoke to find a man standing over her holding a knife

- the man demanded money and took the woman to the bank to withdraw more money

- once outside the apartment building, the woman made a plea for help

- the man then stabbed the woman before fleeing the scene

- the man was located a short distance away by police and arrested

On Tuesday October 1, 2019, Dawit Ephrem, 39, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Break & Enter Commit
2) Robbery with an Offensive Weapon
3) Aggravated Assault
4) Assault with a Weapon
5) Uttering Threats
6) Forcible Confinement

He is scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Tuesday October 1, 2019, 10 a.m., room 501.
