As part of the Safety for Pedestrians Campaign, running from November 4-10, the Toronto Police Service and the City of Toronto are inviting media to learn about Commercial Motor Vehicle and Heavy Truck safety.
The media are invited to speak with members of TPS' Traffic Services, members of the City of Toronto Fleet Safety Unit and other industry partners about road safety.
Media will have the opportunity to ride in and get up close with these operators and the vehicles that they drive daily, to learn about the training, qualifications and responsibilities of operating these specialized vehicles.
Commercial vehicles make up a large part of traffic in Toronto each day and present a traffic safety risk.
In 2019, year to date, eight (15%) of the fatal collisions in Toronto have involved a commercial vehicle and seven of those eight collisions involved a vulnerable road user (90%).
