Retail Robbery Investigation,
Yorkdale Shopping Centre,
Four boys and one man arrested

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of five arrests in relation to a retail robbery.

On Friday, March 6, 2020, at approximately 4:56 p.m, police responded to call for a retail robbery at Yorkdale Shopping Centre

It is alleged that:

- five suspects entered the store while concealing their identities with surgical masks, hoodies and gloves

- four of the suspects were armed with hammers which they used to break open several glass display cases

- one suspect got into a physical confrontation with the store security officer and assaulted him with a hammer

- the suspects fled the scene without taking any property

Hold Up Squad investigators, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, were able to track the suspects to a nearby location.

It further alleged:

- clothing and hammers were recovered.


Chibuike Alex Nwagwu, 35, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1) Robbery with Offensive Weapon
2) Disguise with Intent
3) Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence
4) Obstruct Peace Officer
5) Possession of a Schedule I Substance

He appeared in court for a Bail Hearing on March 7, 2020 at 9:00 a.m., at 2201 Finch Avenue Court, Room 204

Three 17-year-old boys and one 14-year-old boy were all charged with:

1) Robbery With Offensive Weapon
2) Disguise With Intent
3) Possession of a Weapon
4) Conspiracy to Commit Indicatable Offence
5) Mischief Over $5,000

They all appeared in court for a Bail Hearing on March 7, 2020 at 9:00 a.m., at 2201 Finch Avenue Court, Room 204
