The Toronto Police Service’ Sex Crimes, Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) has arrested a man in an ongoing Sexual Assault investigation.
It is alleged that:
- between July 1, 2013 to August 31, 2020, a man volunteered at Mision Cristiana Voz de Restauracion Church located at 4545 Jane Street in Toronto
- during this time, the man sexually assaulted two male parishioners under the age of 18 on numerous occasions
On Monday, March 1, 2021, members of Sex Crimes - Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) arrested Jose Portillo, 62, of Toronto.
He is facing the following ten charges:
1. four counts of Sexual Assault
2. three counts of Sexual Exploitation
3. two counts of Sexual Interference
4. Make Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Person Under 18
He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 2:30 p.m., at Toronto North Courts, 1000 Finch Avenue West, room 301
Investigators established the 62-year-old has volunteered with Mision Cristiana Voz de Restauracion Church in Toronto since 2004.
Investigators are concerned there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 416-808-2922.
The CYAC was opened in October 2013 and is comprised of specialized child abuse
investigators from the Toronto Police Service, in collaboration with members of the Catholic Children's Aid Society, the Children's Aid Society of Toronto, the Hospital for Sick Children's Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Program (SCAN), Radius Child & Youth Services, and Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre.
