The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a homicide investigation.
On Sunday, April 4, 2021, at 8:22 p.m., police responded to a radio call for a missing person in the Pape Avenue and Gamble Avenue area.
It is reported that:
- a woman had not been heard from for some time
- officers located a woman in an apartment with significant injuries
- the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene
The victim has been identified as Cynthia Coffey, 64, of Toronto.
On Monday, April 5, 2021, Hugo Munoz, 46, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:
1. Second Degree Murder
He is scheduled to appear virtually at Old City Hall on Monday, April 5, 2021, at 10 a.m. courtroom 112.
The accused and the victim were known to each other.
This is an active investigation and police remain in the area carrying out inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding Cynthia's death.
Anyone who may have seen Cynthia Coffey, or heard or witnessed anything suspicious, is urged to contact Homicide Detectives. The smallest amount of information could be vital to the investigation.
