Man arrested and charged

The Toronto Police Service continues to investigate after shots were fired at a mall.

Police were called at 3:38 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021, for the sound of gunshots at Yorkdale Mall.

It is alleged that:

- numerous people reported shots had been fired

- officers arrived immediately on scene, and with the assistance of mall security were able to arrest one man nearby

- a loaded Glock-19 firearm was recovered as well as ammunition

- out of an abundance of caution, the mall was placed into lockdown

- officers including the Emergency Task Force and K9 Unit cleared the area and surrounding businesses, and rendered the scene safe

- patrons of the mall were escorted out safely by officers and reunited with families and loved ones

- at this time, there are no reported injuries as a result of gunshots

A 21-year-old man, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Unauthorized possession of a firearm
2. Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
3. Possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized
4. Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order
5. Discharge Firearm with Intent to wound, endanger life
6. three counts of Assault

For investigative reasons, officers will not be releasing his name at this time.

The remains an active investigation and further updates will be provided.
