Residents Asked to Be Aware of Unsafe Ice Conditions

Broadcast time: 09:00
Date: Friday, January 14, 2022
Unit: Marine
Phone: 416-808-5821

Due to recent fluctuations in temperature, the Toronto Police Marine Unit would like to remind residents to stay off natural ice surfaces on open bodies of water.

This ice is very unstable, posing significant safety concerns for members of the public and their pets. For safety’s sake please avoid walking, skating and sledding on the ice.

The Marine Unit is also advising that open water ice and storm water management pond ice is never truly safe. If you observe someone fall through the ice, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Please watch our Ice Safety Video for some potentially life-saving tips if you find yourself in a situation where you’ve accidentally fallen through the ice.

For more information please contact Constable Kevin Lee of the Marine Unit at 416-808-5821.
