Communications Services

Case #:

Every year, the second week of April is dedicated to 9-1-1 telecommunicators, the first of the first-responders in an emergency. The week is dedicated to honour and show appreciation for the life-saving communications services provided by police, fire, and paramedic service telecommunicators. Although they are not as visible as the men and women who arrive at the scene of emergencies, they are equally as important.

In September 2001, the inaugural Communicator of the Year Awards were held on-field, prior to a Blue Jays' game at the Rogers Centre. Police, fire and paramedic services participated in the awards, which have now become an annual event.

The awards will be held in the Toronto Police Service headquarters lobby on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. In attendance will be Toronto Police Service Deputy Chief Shawna Coxon, Toronto Paramedic Services Chief Gord McEachen, and Toronto Fire Services Deputy Chief Tony Bavota. The MC for this event will be Kevin Frankish, co-host of Breakfast Television Toronto.
