The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in the investigation of two retail robberies.

On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, officers responded to two retail robberies that were committed in the Weston Road and St. Clair Avenue West area.

It is alleged that:

- in each incident, a man entered the store and approached the checkout counter

- the man pulled out a silver handgun and made a demand for cash

- the man took cash and a quantity of long distance telephone calling cards

- in one incident, the man took an employee’s cellphone and shattered the screen, making it unusable

- the man then fled each scene on an e-bike

Members of the Toronto Police Hold Up Squad began an investigation and were able to identify the suspect.

On Friday, May 28, 2021, Jawara Brown, 40, of Toronto, was arrested. He is facing the following seven charges:

1. two counts Robbery with a Firearm
2. two counts of Disguise with Intent
3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
4. Mischief
5. Fail to Comply Probation

He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, May 28, 2021, at 10 a.m.
