Nathaniel Brettell, 57,
Search warrant granted
Broadcast time: 11:30
Date: Tuesday, June 29, 2021
Case #: 2021-204256
As part of a homicide investigation into the disappearance of Nathaniel Brettell, officers will be searching a waste management site.
A search warrant was granted for the Green Lane Landfill site in Southwold for Monday, July 5, 2021.
The excavation is expected to be ongoing for the next couple of months and will involve multiple units from across the Service including Homicide, Police Dogs, Emergency Management and Public Order, and the Public Safety Unit.
The 57-year-old was last known to be at home on Thursday, January 21, 2021, in the Westona Street and Dixon Road area. There have been no further sightings of him.
Despite extensive inquiries, officers have been unable to locate Nathaniel so far. This, along with evidence from the scene, led investigators to treat his disappearance as a homicide.
Ahmed Al-Farkh, 34, of Toronto, was arrested in May and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Following a development in the investigation, officers also have reason to believe Nathaniel's body could be at the landfill site.
Detectives continue to urge the public to come forward with any information.
Residents in the area of the landfill will be informed of any potential impacts that may result from the search. However, it is not expected to impact garbage collection in Toronto.
